Divorce Attorney & Mediator Daniel Burns, Albany, NY

About Dan Burns In 1996, after 15 years as a divorce lawyer, I decided to focus my law practice on divorce mediation. Since that time I have helped over one thousand couples obtain a legal separation or divorce without becoming involved in a hurtful and costly court battle. I also served as Niskayuna Town Judge for 12 years and now devote my time to helping couples avoid the conflicts that I often saw in the court. I was previously a Family Law instructor at the Schenectady County Community College, am a frequent guest instructor on mediation at Albany Law School, provide mediation training throughout New York, and was responsible for establishing the legal precedent that now allows attorney mediators in New York to prepare legal documents, including separation agreements and divorce papers, for their clients. I received mediation training at the Center for Mediation in Law in New York City and the Mediation Center, Inc. of Eugene Oregon, am an Advanced Practitioner member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and currently serve as president of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation.
