Some divorce questions?

Question by just_me: Some divorce questions? My fiance' has been legally seperated from his wife for a little over 3 years now, and back in June he hired an attorney in Florida, for Duval county. Here's my question, since he is in the Navy, about how long will it take for his divorce to be finalized? They have 2 children, which she currently has custody of, and no property/household items to dispute. He is stationed in Great Lakes, and was told by her attorney that he needed to come down to Florida for the mediation. He wanted to do it via phone conference, but her attorney would have none of it. Oh, and do ALL spouses automaticaly get half of the active duty's retirement and TSP when divorcing? He contacted legal, and they said that he's on his own, that it is considered a civilian matter. His attorney is a civilian. The military has no assistance when it comes to divorces. WOW.....dan_196......we are a wee bit judgmental aren't we. I can smell a bitter person.....and most likely a bible thumper from a million miles away. You've made quite a little story all for yourself, with minimal info. You should definitely start writing books, since you seem to have quite an imagination. Let me play your same game. Your neurotic, hence your long message that rambles on and on.....you mention you have a son.....who most likely joined the military to get a way from the likes of you......even during war time. Your EX husband cheated on you.....hence the bitter tone. I would definitely say religious woman too....due to the adulterous remark. Aren't you going to throw some bible verses in here......that would've added a nice touch. Don't you think? Well, I'll let you get back to your finger pointing, and back biting. I'm sure there are some homosexuals out there that need your advice!!!! Best answer:

Your fiance needs to deal with the assistance from the military regarding this situation, since they're more in a better position to help him out. He can inquire about the division of his benefits if any, child support and about the soon to be ex-wife. You didn't say what kind of attorney (civilian or military) he retained if any and who's more better equipped to deal with this divorce. Only the attorney can keep him abreast of the latest and I don't know how long that'll take. Good luck on this one.
