Question by marsz85: International divorce? Hi all, I have looked all over google and have even consulted with a U.S lawyer but I still have not gotten a sure or definite answer. Here goes. My girlfriend got married 5yrs ago to a citizen of the Dominican Republic but the immigration stuff never worked out for her husband. After failing to getting him to the U.S, they just stayed married and that was pretty much it. I met her a year ago and I have my divorce done already. We would like to get married and hear to get married and found out that there is a 1 day quick divorce that she can do if she goes to the D.R. Here husband is willing to co-operate with the divorce so it will be uncontested. My question is; how does she go about getting it done there? Who do we contact? Do we need an attorney for the quick divorce or do we just go to the court there and ask for a divorce? By the way, we are New York residents if it helps any. Thanks, any suggestions would be appreciated.
